Un serial killer elimina le prostitute nella città santa di Mashhad, la polizia indaga (?) controvoglia, una giornalista s’immerge nel sottobosco di disperazione, oppio e ipocrisia. Basato sulla vera storia di Saeed Hanaei, per la popolazione locale un “eroe” che ripuliva le strade dalla “feccia”:
“Who is to be judged?” wrote the conservative newspaper Jomhuri Islami. “Those who look to eradicate the sickness or those who stand at the root of the corruption?”[3] Such sentiments were expressed by the killer’s merchant friends at the Mashhad bazaar, one of whom said, "He did the right thing. He should have continued.
Bravissima Zar Amir Ebrahimi nel ruolo principale, che le è valso il premo di migliore attrice a Cannes, ma che alla fine le ha portato un sacco di rogne:
A few days after Zar Amir Ebrahimi won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance in this film, Iranian officials accused the Iranian-born actress and the movie’s Danish-Iranian director, Ali Abbasi, of “blasphemy.” Some have even gone further, calling for their executions. The Iranian Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs, which operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, released a statement calling the film “shameless obscenity,” adding that it was “the product of the twisted mind of an Iranian-Danish man”, and condemning the Cannes Festival for awarding the film the Best Actress award, calling it “an insulting and politically-motivated move”. Ebrahimi also told CNN that she had received around 200 threats after the award ceremony at Cannes. The director of ‘Holy Spider’ and others involved in making this film have also received similar threats.
Quelli stavano bene sotto lo Scià. Pensare che invece è un film profondamente musulmano ma si sa che quando ci stanno dei pazzi al potere qualsiasi scusa per trovare dei nemici la si trova sempre. Mi sfugge il senso del titolo in inglese al film ma va da sé.
The murders were referred to as the “spider killings” by the Iranian press because Hanaei lured the women to his home and strangled them and dumped their bodies.
No Almeyer è ovvio che il titolo l’ho capito. L’ho visto in originale coi sottotitoli in inglese perciò figurati. Non ho capito perché in Italia è stato distribuito con un titolo in inglese.
Ma meno male. Io i titoli li lascerei sempre in originale. Che facevano, “Santo Ragno”? “I delitti di Mashhad?”, “Arana Sagrada”, come gli spagnoli? Quasi tutti hanno tenuto il titolo originale:
Che nel 2023 uno abbia bisogno del titolo italiano tradotto, mi sembra miope.
Ne prendo atto. Di questo. Io, piuttosto, mi riferivo a titoli come NAMELESS, BLACK SYMPHONY, THE ORPHANAGE, A BITTERSWEET LIFE, THOMAS IN LOVE, FUCKING AMAL, STILL LIFE. Tutti i film con titoli non in inglese in origine. Cioè a me dà fastidio questo provincialismo per cui c’è ancora la convinzione che un titolo in inglese attiri più che uno in italiano. Ma questo mi rendo conto è un altro discorso. Ciò non toglie che un titolo tipo ‘Il ragno sacro’ non suonava affatto male.
