I tabù (Romolo Marcellini 1963)

Hello @schramm,@frank_n_furter

I wonder if it is possible to locate documentation from when this movie first went to censorship to see which cuts were suggested / made when it was first submitted?

After an initial rejection, the film apparently passed the censorship process without any cuts. However, as soon as it was released, it was confiscated, and the judges imposed six very significant cuts.

Thank you for your input, which is always welcome and appreciated.

The reason I ask this query is I am now wondering if it’s possible the Japanese segments are either re-used from another (earlier?) mondo movie, or if some of the cut material was then used later on for another movie?

I have already noticed that Sadismo shares the scene with the mouse and the females mouth, I have also spotted the lizard being fed chicks from another movie. I’m now wondering if these were cuts made, which is quite possible, as I remember searching for one under an alternate title and it specifically mentioned the lizard scene as the reason for it not being suitable for a certain age range. I suspect there may be other footage shot too, that went unused, and then this was possibly sold on and repurposed. Anyway, this is all sounding speculative right now I know, but there is some reasoning behind it I assure you. I wonder if Marcellini shot the footage himself at all or whether he bought it — especially the Japanese segments.

Finally I have managed to acquire a copy of the Vincent Price narrated version under its title of Taboos of the World!

A very rare edition, currently considered lost by many, but alas it is not lost and has now been recovered!
