Dear BMW2002,

Thanks a lot for your recommendations, actually I’m making a list at home with all the ones people from this forum are suggesting.

Oh, by the way, I think you misunderstood what I wrote (unless I didn’t looked correctly), I wrote:

“GENERAL ITALIAN CINEMA” (and not “Italian Genere’s Film”) meaning, for example, from comedy to drama, through crimis, etc…so: ALL GENRES TOGETHER. No problem 'though…

Yes, I enjoyed “C’era una volta in America”, I forgot to mention it in my list, since although is a Sergio Leone movie everything is in USA, even spoken in English, but you are right.

I’m not too much of a fan of Spaghetti Western but can live with some of it, and, of course, I’ve seen all the ones you mentioned.

I’m actually fond of some american Western, especially that have some moral behind it. If you are interest in knowing which ones here are some of them:

  • Hombre
  • High Noon
  • The Searchers
  • Winchester 73 (1950)
  • Last Train From Gun Hill
  • The Bravados
  • She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
  • Wagon Master

just to mention a few of the older ones. If you haven’t seen any of this, please start with “Hombre” (1967).

Best regards and thanks again for your list!,

Straniero

Howdi Stranger!
Pls find some more recommendations:

Le Conseguenze Dell’Amore
Non Ti Muovere

Almayer,

Thanks a lot for the recommendations, haven’t seen any of those too.

Best regards,

No problem, any time. You can find reviews of some of them on www.dvdbeaver.com

Actualy Straniero is Foreigner more than Stranger.

I know, but I like to use it “the old way”…

stranger Pronunciation Key (strnj)
adj. strang·er, strang·est

  1. Not previously known; unfamiliar.
    1. Out of the ordinary; unusual or striking.
    2. Differing from the normal.
  2. Not of one’s own or a particular locality, environment, or kind; exotic.
    1. Reserved in manner; distant.
    2. Not comfortable or at ease; constrained.
  3. Not accustomed or conditioned: She was strange to her new duties.
    6. Archaic. Of, relating to, or characteristic of another place or part of the world; foreign.

Today I’ve just seen: “Perché si uccide un magistrato”, which in my opinion is a film with some interesting things but probably not everybody will enjoy the end. I really liked “il Commissario Zamagna” in it (anybody else?).

In any case, my edition was a “Blue Underground”, which includes a 15 minutes especial with some informative comments from Damiani and Nero. It comes in English and Italian. I watched it in Italian, and don’t know how is the English version.

Oh, by the way, I wanted to check out if there was already a thread about this movie in the site but wasn’t sure how to search besides reading all the messages… (anyone knows?)

Best regards to all,

Straniero

Is the movie also in Italian & English or just the interview? How would you rate the dvd, a must buy?

Oh, by the way, I wanted to check out if there was already a thread about this movie in the site but wasn’t sure how to search besides reading all the messages… (anyone knows?)

At the top left you have a search button (between New Posts & Quick Links).
And yes, there’s a thread on it:

http://www.gentedirispetto.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2117&highlight=magistrato

And it already answers my question, the movie has English & Italian audio tracks.

Dear Almayer,

Thank you and you are most welcome.

Yes, what I meant, when I said I watched in Italian, was that it also has English sound (and subtitles). Since you are asking me with some detail, I could tell you that the subtitles are not very occurate, but probably you can live with them…Again, I didn’t checked out the English speaking version, since, as I said, I can completly understand a movie in Italian, so can’t tell you about that.

I would rate the movie (in a scale of 1 to 10, being 10 the best) between 6 and 7, mainly because of the end (otherwise higher), BUT that is especially very partial from my side (can’t comment further without HEAVY SPOILER), and it is very interesting what Damiani has to say about the orientation of that end in the EXTRAS.

Some scenes, like the political party discussion about how to approach the “crisis”, at the very end what goes on with the press, the discussion around the idea of a movie being able to generate a real situation, etc. have good dialogs. It has also some really nice locations in Sicily.

The movie is a political thriller (politicians, mafia, crime). I would say that the movie is pretty entertaining.

Thanks for the searching tips, I will have a look, but you don’t mean Google, right? (exact link for searching INSIDE the forum?)

Best regards,

Straniero

Hi i’m kassio82, sorry for my inglish but i’m trying to improve it.
The list of movies you wrote it’s not bad, i like 80% of that movies.
here some little suggestion from me:

“La Grande Guerra” Mario Monicelli
“Amici Miei I II III” Germi and Monicelli
“Il Mostro” Roberto Benigni
“Milano Calibro 9” Fernando Di Leo

They are different movies from different times “60’ to 90’”

A little question: Why you asked if “anybody in this site study for movie direction?”

I’m just curious.

See you

Dear kassio82,

Thank you for your answer and suggestions.

I’ve seen some of them:

“Milano Calibro 9”, but I’m not a fan of this type of cinema (I know, a sacrilege in this site, hahaha).

also remember not enjoying “Il Mostro”.

I must see again: “La Grande Guerra”, since I saw it in the 60’s and can’t remember anything about it and that goes for hundreds of other movies I’ve seen in my childhood that I should watch again to revaluate them.

Regarding “Amici Miei I II III”, I haven’t seen them, 'though, probably, I’ve have seen ONLY the first one, but can’t remember anything (same reason I was telling you before).

Again, thank you once again for the suggestions, I’m looking forward more.

ALSO: I’m VERY interested in knowing which movies belong to the 20% you DON’T LIKE.

Regarding my question: (“anybody in this site study for movie direction?”)

The question is for several reasons, but mainly, just to know who is talking from a more professional point of view.

You see, if I bring it to my profesion, what the general (and “especialized”) public, press, etc talks about and prefer is TOTALLY disconected to what profesionals prefer, and especially as you are a higher profesional gets much futher away than from average professional.

Interesting to say in the two other things I do (or better said: I’ve done) as INTENSIVE HOBBY it is pretty much the same.

In cinema I’m completly in a position of PUBLIC.

The other reason I was asking was because it would be interesting to have some insiders view about some topics, for example, the other day I was asking why in so many italian movies from the past (60-70s or before) seems to be always clowdy although it’s evident that they were filmed under intense (beautiful Italian) sun. Is it the incorrect approach to light, is it the poor copy, or?

Best regards,

Straniero

This is an interesting list that includes various italian titles, for a suggestion I must start from these. Some title is a neorealist movie(like Ladri di biciclette,La terra trema,Sciuscià,Germania anno zero),there are other beautiful neorelistic movies like Roma città aperta,Umberto D,Paisà and Francesco giullare di Dio that I suggest strongly.
Than there is some italian comedy in the list(like Il sorpasso,Profumo di donna,Pane e cioccolata,Un borghese piccolo piccolo,Io so che tu sai che io so),I suggest other important italian comedies like I mostri,La grande guerra,L’armata brancaleone,Guardie e ladri,Tutti a casa,A cavallo della tigre,Signore e Signori,I soliti ignoti,Divorzio all’italiana,Sedotta e abbandonata,Il federale,Italian secret service,Una vita difficile, and other titles could be quoted. There are then italian crime movies (like Milano odia and Il cittadino si ribella)I suggest in this genre Milano calibro 9,La mala ordina,Il boss,La polizia incrimina,la legge assolve,La polizia chiede aiuto,La polizia accusa:il servizio segreto uccide,Roma a mano armata,La polizia è sconfitta, only some of the several interesting italian crime movies.
Therefore there is some mafia movie in the list (like Pizza connection,Confessione…,La piovra,Dimenticare Palermo),I suggest Il giorno della civetta and A ciascuno il suo, both from Sciascia novels.
Finally there are in the list movies directed by Fellini(like Roma and Amarcord),Visconti (La terra trema and Morte a Venezia),Tornatore(Nuovo cinema paradiso,Il camorrista,Stanno tutti bene,Malena),Scola(Rocco Papaleo,Maccheroni,C’eravamo tanto amati),I suggest the fellinian I vitelloni e La dolce vita, the viscontian Senso,Rocco e i suoi fratelli and Il gattopardo,Una pura formalità(my favourite movie directed by Tornatore)and Brutti, sporchi e cattivi,an extraordinary movie directed by Scola.

Thanks a lot for taking the time. I will take your recommendations SERIOUSLY in consideration . Some I already seen (see coment next to them).

Today I could add also:

Casanova (Fellini)
Per grazia ricevuta
Il Delitto Matteotti
Sposi

Warm regards!

Straniero

ciao!

Dear Satanetto,

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I’ll keep them in mind.

I just wanted to comment a bit about only one of your suggestions, which I already seen but didn’t include in my list: “All’onorevole piacciono le donne (Nonostante le apparenze… e purché la nazione non lo sappia)” (1972)

This movie has a great start and tells you everything politicians are (…), the same as “La Giornata dell’Onororebole” in “I Mostri”. Unfortunatelly very fast, in my oppinion, becomes a silly sex comedy.

Nevertheless that begining is a real wake up alert, or remind, of what kind of world we live in, and I appreciate that a lot from the director!!

Warmest regards,

Straniero

Just a brief message to say that I’d been updating the original list since I started the thread, adding in the original list the new view movies.

Since I started (10 months ago) I included around 20 more movies (the last ones in the list).

Thanks!

Straniero
